Director of Music
Rev. Dr. W. James Legge
I have come to answer the call of the Community Presbyterian Church to serve as a Missional Pastor. To this point in my life I have served our Lord in parish and academic ministries all in Western Pennsylvania. I am a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, followed by a Bachelor of Divinity/Master of Divinity/Doctor of Ministry Degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
I met my wife, Charlotte at college where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science in Education. We have two children, William James Legge, III and our daughter Charlene Heather Heydon. Both of our children are Elders in Presbyterian Churches. Together we can serve Jesus Christ in Deerfield Beach in a ministry that will reach out to the greater community. This we will do in worship, fellowship, and mission in the Name of our Savior.
I studied music at Huntingdon College and directed choirs in Mobile, Alabama and Gulf Breeze, Florida. My husband Rob and I recently moved to Ft. Lauderdale and our two young adult children remain in Northwest Florida to work and go to school.
As a church musician, my mission is to glorify God, support the message of the Word, and encourage participation in worship through corporate song. Come be part of our chancel choir, handbells, or take part as an instrumentalist or soloist. It is a joy and a privilege to help prepare music for worship at Steeple on the Beach. Come participate and be blessed!
Thank you for the opportunity of working here at CPC. I have met a group of wonderful Christian people I now call friends. After raising 3 beautiful and independent children, my husband, Mark and I moved to Deerfield Beach and welcomed our new lives as “Empty Nesters”. We finally finished the necessary renovations of our townhome, had fun exploring our new town, but, I knew I wanted to be a part of our new found community.
After taking a hiatus from employment for a few years, I started feeling unfulfilled. So, naturally, I prayed to God to direct me and help me figure out what he wanted me to do with my newfound life. In the meantime, I started by volunteering at the Mae Volen Senior Center and did concierge services for seniors whenever possible. Fast forward, I had opportunity of meeting a wonderful lady and neighbor, Margaret Briggs, during one of her daily walks with her daughter, Barbara.
I had casual conversations with Margaret from time to time. Not realizing all along, that I was actually being interviewed during these conversations by Margaret; when she mentioned that the church needs a secretary and that I should go apply. While that was going on, Mark & I formed Deerfield Beach Island Community Association (DBICA), and at one of our initial meetings in Briggs Hall, I met Rev. Dennis Andrews, he introduced himself, and announced that the church was looking to hire a secretary…Um…It’s all history now.
I am blessed to be working with kind, patient & generous members of the church and a minister who is determined to grow this church, for it is the heart of our community.
